I opened up yahoo mail and found over 1200 emails. They were all returned emails that were undeliverable to sites I don’t recognize and that I did not email anything to. This has happened several times over the last month. Is it yahoo or something else?

Some spammer is using your email as the return address when sending out emails. You can check this by looking at the full headers when viewing the email.
For e.g., this is the header from a spam email I received
From: “Helena ”
Reply-To: “Helena ”
Notice that the Reply-To field is different from the From field. Probably someone is using your email in the Reply-To: field hence you are getting the mass emails which were undeliverable.
