Might we get in trouble with our ISP if we used bulk email software to send out millions of emails (opt in)?

We have never used mass email marketing before but are giving it very serious consideration now. We can get a company to do it for us or we can simply buy databases and an application and do it ourselves. But we’re wondering whether our ISP might get a bit annoyed if we send out millions of emails? Thanks
The application enables us to bypass our ISP’s SMTP server (if that helps?!)

Read your customer agreement, the one you promised to live up to when you signed up with your ISP. Or just call them and ask.

(If they’re a reputable ISP, I certainly *hope* you’ll get in trouble. No legit ISP’s want to wind up on a blacklist.)
